Other Ways To Give
Cash
Cash can be given to St Mark’s in the offering box which is kept near the entry doors of the main church. Gift Aid can only be claimed on gifts which are in completed Gift Aid Envelopes (found in the leaflet stand in the hall, or at Reception).
Cheque
You can give via cheque on a one off or regular basis by making it payable to ‘St Mark’s Church’ and either placing it in the offering box or sending it to the church, marked for the attention of the Finance Department. If you are a tax payer, please make sure you have completed a Gift Aid Declaration so that we can reclaim the tax.
Give as You Earn (Payroll Giving)
This can be set up through your company’s payroll. If you give via Payroll Giving then, because you are giving ‘pre-tax’, you are able to pass on the full benefit of your tax to St Mark’s immediately. If you are a higher rate taxpayer, St Mark’s will receive 42p more per £1 of donation and, for additional rate taxpayers, St Mark’s will receive 57p more per £1 of donation than if you give through Give Aid. Because these donations are made ‘pre-tax’, St Mark’s does not have to reclaim the tax that you pay via Gift Aid. This requires you to build in the ‘tax back’ element to your donation.
For example; if you are a higher rate taxpayer and currently give St Mark’s £300 a month, St Mark’s is able to claim £75 of your tax back via Gift Aid. If you donate £500 via Payroll Giving you will receive £300 less pay each month, meaning your £500 donation will cost you the same as your current giving but St Mark’s will receive £125 more. The same result can be achieved by your completing a self-assessment tax return and re-claiming the difference between the tax recovered via Gift Aid and the tax that you have actually paid. However, this requires you to actually fill in a tax return and takes longer for the gift to be received.
Matched Funding
If your employer runs a Matched Funding scheme, your donation to St Mark’s could be as much as doubled, at no extra cost to you. Contact your HR Team for details.
